was born in LaPaz, Bolivia, on June 12, 1920.  He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1941 and was admitted to the Alabama Bar shortly before his 21st birthday.  He subsequently attended the Hague Academy of International Law, The Hague, Netherlands.  Robert served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946 and during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.  During his naval service, he received 13 campaign ribbons and retired as a Commander.  He is a past president of the Mobile County Chapter of the Red Cross and the Mobile Arts Council and is former legal counsel to the Southern Cemetery Association.  He is a member of the Alabama State Bar, American Bar Association and the Mobile Bar Association and served as its President in 1964-1965.  He has twice been awarded the Alabama State Bar Certificate of Merit for service to his profession.  He has served on committees of the Alabama Law Institute and as a member of the Alabama Law Foundation and the American Bar Foundation.  In 2011, Mr. Denniston was honored with a Joint Resolution of the Alabama Legislature commending him for 70 years of service.  In 2015 he was recipient of the Howell Heflin Honor and Integrity Award by the Mobile and Baldwin County Bar Associations as well as the 2015 Alabama Chief Justice’s Professional Award.  During his service as a Mobile attorney, his practice has been primarily in business law, real estate, probate, taxation and business bankruptcy.
